If you are faced with a civil legal issue and need free legal aid or assistance in Iowa, a number of attorneys and firms offer pro-bono services. Federal government funding from Legal Services Corporation pays for the programs, and qualified individuals can receive free advice on a number of issues.

The leading organization that offers this support is known as Iowa Legal Aid. First the lawyer will describe and explain the pros and cons of a guardianship relationship and they will determine through intake if it is even an option for the client. The lawyer will explain rights, obligations and duties of a guardianship over minor children, and they will review the case with you, as well as represent you in an Iowa court if need be.

If it is applicable, lawyers will prepare the Petition, including Declarations, Fee Waivers, etc., as needed, and they will also accompany the caregiver or grandparent to court as a support person. This is offered as a pro-bono service to qualified individuals.

Adult and Children services are offered by Iowa Legal Aid. The goal is to ensure that adults, women and children live in an environment free from neglect and/or abuse. Attorneys will provide health advocacy assistance to the elderly, low-income individuals and children who are encountering difficulty with access to health care. Get assistance understanding your health care rights and responsibilities, help with navigating and understanding the health care system, legal support for questionable medical bills, and one on one assistance with an attorney in overcoming barriers to health care in Iowa.
