Rent assistance in Myrtle Beach and Horry County.

Find where to get rent assistance, low income housing, and security deposit help in Horry County as well as Myrtle Beach South Carolina. Several charities, churches, non-profit organizations and government agencies provide help. Funds are available for the low income, senior citizens, unemployed, single moms as well as working poor. The agencies help with rent payments (including for mobile homes) or offer security deposit assistance. The Myrtle Beach area programs and agencies are focused on preventing evictions as well as homelessness in the community. They can meet this goal by helping people apply for emergency rent help or government programs such as section 8 HUD housing choice vouchers.

CASA (Citizens Against Spouse Abuse) – Offers emergency shelter and housing assistance. They run 24-hour crisis intervention (phone) counseling for parents and children as well. 626-7595




Horry County Department of Social Services – The local government agency that offers many financial and non-financial assistance programs. Each town/city has their own location to call. The offices may have information on section 8 housing, shelter, emergency rental and utility help, homeless prevention and rapid rehousing, and more. Christian Missions – Offers household items, clothing, electric assistance, and more in emergency situations. 293-2411

CAPS (Churches Assisting People) - Provides limited rental and utilities assistance for persons in Conway South Carolina. Call 488-2277

Helping Hand – Myrtle Beach. The charity runs several crisis programs in both the “South Strand” as well as “North Strand”. The emergency assistance programs can help with rent, security deposits, utilities, food, housing, and more. All services are offered on a limited basis. Two branches are in Horry County, and include North Strand branch (399-0862) as well as Helping Hands of South Strand. Call 238-4594

South Strand Helping Hand is based in Myrtle Beach. Financial aid, including no interest loans, can help with emergency rental expenses. Other services include shelter, programs for single moms, and transitional housing. Phone - (843) 238-4594.

Waccamaw Economic Opportunity Council, Inc. – A number of social service programs and financial assistance is offered. Get help with rent, eviction prevention, case management, and information on low income housing. United Way of Horry County is a free referral line. Callers can get information on loan and grant programs for paying their rent or find lawyers to help them content an eviction or foreclosure. There is medical care, job programs, Housing First Programs, and other support services. Call (843)347-5195, or find additional ways to get rent help from United Way.

Horry County Veterans Affairs – Provides financial assistance to veterans, dependents and survivors. They help military members and veterans stay housed and get their benefits. Call 915-5480

Horry County Council on Aging has information and referrals for residents and senior citizens over the age of 60, including the disabled. Federal funded eviction assistance as well as legal aid is used to prevent homelessness. Money may be provided by ESG grants for paying back rent. Other uses of the funds in Myrtle Beach or the county may be to provide free motel vouchers, help veterans, and offer support for a deposit or first months rent. Housing Authorities – Housing programs offered include section 8 housing and homeless prevention. Also has details on public housing, loans and low cost or subsidized apartments.

People for Caring – Assistance program for unwed mothers, including housing, rent assistance, eviction prevention, food and clothing, etc. 421-1749

Promise Land Crisis Center – Provides low income and elderly with housing, education, and more. Many seniors call on this Horry County non-profit for information and referrals. 358-8555

Horry County Salvation Army – Runs a variety of programs, which include emergency rent, household items, utilities, and disaster programs.
