Houston area and Harris County Lone Star Legal Aid.

Numerous legal services are provided to Houston area families from Lone Star Legal Aid. In fact, the firm provides assistance across all of Harris County. There is support provided at various clinics, their main office, and different non-profit partners across the region. Referrals may be provided in some cases as well.

While a number of civil matters can be addressed, they do receive numerous requests for certain issues. This includes housing (such as eviction and homeless prevention), low income families may need help when denied for government benefits, tenant rights, and much more. They also help people who are at risk, such as victims of domestic violence or the elderly in the county. Clients need to meet low income limits in place in order to get free advice from the lawyers and their staff.

The non-profit firm will also represent people who have complicated legal issues but cannot afford an attorney on their own, so they are a full service firm. While depending on need and the request, LSLA can provide free advice, they run self-help clinics or assist with counsel, offer community legal education, and referrals. More details on their services are below.

Housing assistance is available from Lone Star Legal Aid. Every month thousands of families struggle to pay their rent or maybe face a foreclosure on their home. Others are faced with unsafe housing conditions or difficult landlords. Lone Star Legal can help with these issues and more.

If found to be qualified, an attorney from LSLA can advise clients on their rights when it comes to an eviction filing and also go over both tenant and landlord rights and obligations. There is also support in completing section 8 vouchers. (713) 652-0077.

Helping clients achieve economic stability, including from government benefits, is also available. Staff from the firm can advise individuals if they were unfairly denied for public benefits, such as SSDI disability, Medicaid, or many others. They can also advise clients that may have been unfairly terminated from their employer or need help in applying for unemployment. Lone Star wants to ensure each person has access to the aid they are entitled too.

In some cases, the firm can represent people at hearings. This is often the case for social security disability, as that process in particular can be long and complicated. Having the support from an attorney can accelerate the process and ensure an individual gets the most money they are entitled too.

The Houston Texas offices of Lone Star Legal Aid address much more as well. This can include, but is not limited to, help people or immigrants with limited English capabilities navigate the system. They also assist victims of domestic violence, including single parents and children. The pro-bono firm also address consumer fraud protection and can help individuals deal with aggressive debt collection firms.

Another priority is ensuring residents of Harris County have access to electricity. For any illegal utility disconnections, or questionable ones at that, a staff member from Legal Aid can explore the problem and contact the energy provider if needed.

All clients need to be low income. This includes seniors, children, or even the disabled, if they meet that requirement. Some clients will be disabled residents in need of low income housing or rent assistance. What is often the case is that very low income or struggling people need help with applying for Medicaid, appealing food stamp applications, or denial of SSDI.

The firms supports a very wide territory. There are centers in the Texas towns of Paris, Waco, Houston, Beaumont, Conroe, and many other close by areas in Harris County. All applications and requests to Lone Star are reviewed closely, on a one-off basis.

The main corporate office for the Houston area is at 1415 Fannin St., Clutch City, Texas 77002, Phone 713-652-0077 or dial toll free at 800-733-8394. If Lone Star can’t help, they have referrals as well. For example, they also work closely with the Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program. Call (713) 228-0735. This is another local, pro-bono service for those without representation.
