Food assistance near you.

Get information on food assistance near you. Low income families, the elderly, single mothers and anyone facing hunger can get help. There are a number of assistance programs for free food, meals, government low income aid and groceries that will be near you, as listed below. Charities, churches and government social service offices all work to help the food “insecure”.

In general, the places, social services and programs that offer food have (1) limited resources as well as (2) application criteria. Each food pantry or dining room/soup kitchen as well as public aid from SNAP food stamps, WIC Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children, etc. will have conditions in place such as around income, residency and more.  However, there is help out there, with many programs open daily and can help some an immediate need for food.

The types of food assistance can come in many forms. Anyone in need can get help, whether single parents, immigrants, the unemployed and others. Fresh items, canned, baby food, vitamins and more may be offered.

  • There are charitable as well as non-profit agencies that give out groceries near you or emergency boxes of food. Many churches and charities work to prevent hunger in local communities with food banks and pantries.
  • Federal and state government food assistance is generally for very low income families and/or those in poverty and range from SNAP food stamps to free infant formula vouchers from WIC, Senior Brown Bags for the elderly, school lunches or breakfast for kids and others.
  • Hot meals can be provided from food programs near you. There are breakfast, lunches, and dinners as well as Meals on Wheels for the homebound, elderly, or disabled.

A number of local, regional, and even federal government agencies offer hunger prevention services, assistance to the low income, and other aid. Some of the resources may give a free box of groceries, food or nutritional items. Others help the low income with long term needs, such as government aid. People in need, whether low income or in a crisis, can get some type of food aid near them. More details are below.
