Most counties provide help to their residents, both in emergency situations and for long term needs. Find help near you from charities or government agencies, such as Human or Social Services. There are also often churches, faith-based groups and other places to turn to for assistance. Select a county (or state) from the list below to find help near you, in your area.

Note that each and every county has their own types of assistance. But residents can find everything from food to financial help. There may be free medical or dental care as well as mental health counseling. Or find help locating affordable housing near you, or get assistance to pay utilities, rent, or a mortgage (among other housing costs). Much more may be offered in each county.

Note that resources are always limited. In general, proof of residency in the county is required as is proof of income as well as expenses. Many of the agencies that provide help near you, such as a church or charity, rely on donations as well as volunteers. Government social service programs rely on state or federal government funding, and those budgets can (and do) change each year.
