Arkansas uninsured health care programs.

Several programs are offered to individuals in Arkansas who either completely lack health insurance or that have limited coverage. There are state and federal government resources as well as services that are offered by non-profit organizations. While not all of the medical care may be provided for free, it will usually come with reduced rates or lower bills for those who qualify.

The conditions of each program will vary widely and many have restrictions in place. For example, some of the medical care is offered for unsinrued children or teenagers. Certain resources may be focused on assisting seniors who live in Arkansas by providing home health care and other support. In almost all cases the patient or their family will need to meet certain low income guidelines and they can't have any existing health insurance for the condition. It is recommended to call to get additional information on what is offered and who can be assisted.

The Arkansas AIDS Drug Assistance Program can help coordinate approved prescription medications for individuals with HIV/AIDS. All assistance is FDA approved and is offered for people without health insurance too. 888-499-6544

Alternatives for Adults with Physical Disabilities provides community based and home services to seniors and other adults with physical restrictions or disabilities. The program will try to coordinate attendant care for families in Arkansas. Counseling support and case management is available too. Call 866-801-3435.

Arkansas BreastCare Program will offer free clinical breast exams, treatment services such as surgical, chemotherapy and radiation therapy, screening mammogram, Pap test, and diagnostic services as needed. Call 800-462-0599 for details on the program.

CHIP, or Arkansas Comprehensive Health Insurance Pool, is the state and federal government medical care for patients that were denied coverage due to high premiums or a serious risk. This is offered for people who can't get health insurance from other resources (private, employer or government) and who are considered uninsured. It may even assist more moderate income families. AHCAF, or the Arkansas Health Care Access Foundation, can offer non-emergency medical care to low-income uninsured residents. Clients will be put into touch with pharmaceutical companies, physicians, registered nurses, dentists, hospitals, pharmacies and even private or public home health agencies. 800-950-8233.




Arkansas Kidney Disease Commission will offer prescription assistance, medical and even dental care for people with Kidney Disease or End Stage Renal Disease. A number of conditions are in place, and only a certain portion of your bill and expenses will be paid for by the non-profit. Interested patients should call 501-686-2807.

Medicaid is another government program for low income and uninsured families in Arkansas. Dial 800-482-5431. The program will help pay for necessary medical services for those who quality. Some of the bills paid for can include hospital, doctor, and even costs incurred from other local health care providers. Certain adults may have to pay part of their medical bill, depending on various factors.

Arkansas Medicaid is one form of government health insurance, but there are others. In addition, some charities and Christian groups also offer group sharing type insurance plans. Most of the resources are for the indigent, very low income, or people who are uninsured and have no other resources offered. Continue with free health insurance policies from the government.

ARKids First Health Insurance Program is insurance for teenagers and children under the age of 19. The resource can pay for costs such as behavioral health services, sick visits, vision and dental services, lab and x-ray, outpatient mental care, supplies, immunizations, chiropractic care, home health, hearing services, family planning, and other emergency services. ElderChoices will try to help residents remain at home with caregivers or relatives for as long as possible. It can provide household assistance, personal emergency response system, home-delivered meals, pay for adult day care, and respite services. Call 866-801-3435.





Increasing Capabilities Access Network / ICAN, which can be reached at 800-828-2799, is a tool or device that helps people learn and community. If your insurance doesn't provide it for you this program may in the form of a loan or other means.

Independent Choices is an option for Arkansas Medicaid recipients who want more flexibility with personal care assistance as it will provide qualified patients with case assistance. The individuals then has much more flexibility to pay for relatives or other care takers as needed. The main number is 888-682-0044.

Infant Hearing Program (IHP) provides free screening, audiologic and medical evaluation in an effort to identify infants or babies with potential hearing loss. Telephone 501-280-4740.

Maternity Program coordinates prenatal care at local Health Units and hospitals, and the services are offered for free or at a very little cost. No patient or family in Arkansas will be refused services due to inability to pay or their health insurance status. It can provide for prenatal visits, pregnancy testing, birth control, postpartum care, and more. Call 800-462-0599.

Well-Child Care is a form of Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment services. It covers children who are on state or federal government Medicaid. Call 800-482-8988.

Mother-Infant Program will coordinate affordable skilled home nursing visits for infants, mothers and those who need help. A nurse who is part of this non-profit program will offer a home environment evaluation to help family prepare for the baby. After the newborn arrives patients can receive additional nurse visits, get information on federal programs such as WIC, sign up for education and more. 800-527-5302

Uninsured Arkansas residents can turn to Christian Sharing plans. These are similar to group buying clubs. The participants premiums are all put together and then, if/when someone gets sick, they turn to the insurance plans. They are faith based, but anyone can enroll into these Christian Health Sharing insurance plans. They cover medications, dental needs, surgeries, and other health care.

Arkansas Newborn Screening (NBS) Screening Program will test, for free, for almost 30 different health conditions in an effort to prevent sever illness, disability, or death. A specialist may be involved as well if needed. Call 866-769-9043 for more information and intake.

The TEFRA - Home Care for Children is medicaid coverage for uninsured children and will keep them in their home vs a hospital or some other institutions. Assistance is offered to those under the age of 19 and who meet other income thresholds as established by the state. Main number is 800-482-8988.





The Arkansas Vaccines for Children Program is available nationwide, including in this state. It will pay for and provide very low cost or free medications for children. The state works in partnership with hospital, non-profits, and other agencies, including community clinics in Arkansas. In some cases an office visit or small fee may be needed from patients.
